Hi, I’m Sean McConnell, creator of the ESP Clay Target Shooting Diary App.
There’s no “Us” involved with this app, it's just “About Me” 😁, and the story behind how the ESP Clay Target Shooting Diary came to be.
I started Clay Target Shooting a number of years ago and immediately became “hooked”. Particularly with English Sporting. However, as always, work got in the way of having fun.
In December 2023, I decided to retire from work and enjoy the freedom and opportunity to do more clay target shooting and more ESP Clay Target Shooting events.
At these events, I noticed many of my shooting buddies and other squad shooters were keen on discussing how they'd performed compared with previous shoots. Often asking what my average is and talking about how their averages have improved or dipped. Some even taking note of each stand menu of targets, so they could analyse their performance, target by target, against previous scorecards they'd kept in a spreadsheet at home.
Ping! 💡An idea struck me.
Wouldn’t it be great if an App was available, capable of allowing you to save and analyse all your shooting scores and targets? A bit of research later, revealed there is an app or two available but not really the sort of app I had in mind.
Another Ping! 💡This time a silly idea - why not Make One!
There was just one big problem with this “Light Bulb” moment – HOW?
As I’m not a software engineer, I had no idea how to create a mobile app, let alone build one myself. So, lots of research followed. Many, many Google searches later I opted to learn how to programme an App using the cross platform (Android & IOS) Flutter Framework with Dart language and Microsoft VS Code. I know, I know, I’m sounding like a coder already!!!
This was at the start of 2025. Bit by bit, line by line, tutorial by tutorial, video by video, I started to learn and create the ESP Clay Target Shooting Diary. More than a year later, many late nights, which often ran into early mornings, and its finally finished and I’m happy to make it available for all to use.
I do hope you download a copy and enjoy using my creation.
Kind Regards & Good Shooting
Sean McConnell.
